BANDPAGE AUGUST 2015

Everyday we’re studying customer conversion rates”
1. Be where your customers are
People are listening to you on streaming way more than they are visiting your Facebook--need to be there!
for some ppl say they listen to faves once a week/every other week, compared to visiting website twice a year
“Fans are spending way more time and energy on streaming sites”
they now have deals with all partners she can’t sell stuff on spotify, etc unless she has bandpage
many artists simply don’t understand how valuable a lot of people either are or could be (I love Ryn, but haven't had a chance to give more money)
2. Know who your customers are
some will spend thousands, some won’t spend anything
launched on Spotify August 13, 2014
***lyrics are the second most-searched thing on google - why hasn’t the music industry gotten into this
*he’ll give me that link
don’t just send the same offer to every fan/platform--optimize it!
they work with streaming services to analyze with their own engine how big a fan is 5 times? 150 times? favorited a song? added to playlist?
shows a big difference if you want a private show vs. a t shirt
as long as artists offer levels of things - $5 t shirt vs $1000 ticket - the algorithm will decide which to offer the fan automatically
when looking at millions of data points, specific points pop up
potential to drive millions of incremental revenue - BIllboard article
gaming industry, etc have picked up on this, and it has likely helped them earn many millions or billions more
back in the day, if you bought a CD and listened to it a million times, the artist would never know now it’s all online, we know that now
your biggest fan on a streaming site might only make you a dollar by listening all the time, but they’ll give you $1000 if they can
the email click through rates are much higher for the emails it automatically sends out when you’re a superfan
bandpage push - what pops up on rhapsody when I’m listening and a superfan
I have to listen to the artist a lot, and then listen again for the thing to pop up -- it won’t just randomly do it
“it has to be a great experience for it to work” - 34 minute mark
Rhapsody is the first to do the push notifications
now that it’s work for them, what about the other 1 billion users on all services around the world
“it’s been a belief of ours…” 40 minute mark “believe it’s a revolutionary moment, like when streaming popped up
***don’t talk about the email bits

“the radio dial that extended your ability to listen from 70 stations to 100,000”
looks a lot like a satellite radio experience, but everywhere in the world, an infinite number of stations, and not just in your car
polled users - what content do you want
music - 600 commercial free stations
starting with internet radio, later in the year it’ll be terrestrial as well (without the ads)

audiobooks - unlimited listening to library of 40k books
sports - multi-year MLB deal - home and away, every device British soccer German soccer

ALSO - podcasts - 5.7 million podcasts
$7.99/month hoping to have the cable model but for audio
there will still be a free model 100k stations worldwide
Pandora - 4% of users become premium Spotify - 25% of users become subscribers
They have really different offerings for this “unique content is going to be really complimentary”
took a year to develop all of this multiple years on the relationship side
they had to work with minor league baseball in order to show they were ready for major league
Canada, UK, US and more to come later
it’s really interesting because this is *unique content*--all the other streaming services have the same content, just organized differently
room for almost anything
LA venue The Echo has a thing where they stream shows Pitchfork has a channel Fedde Le Grand has one
Toyota streamed Stagecoach

UR RADIO

“you are radio”
you can chat and listen in sync
you can talk over the song or pause the song and discuss the song
kind of like video games, where you’re playing and you’re talking to people around the world
high quality audio - a human’s natural frequency - makes the music more clear and crisp
working on a  way for tiny indie artists to submit their own music without having to go through labels and whatnot
as a band, I could annotate a song (this is my favorite lyric, listen for the chord change, etc.)
you can host live talk shows, live shows, etc.
“periscope for live music” - no video, but that may be coming later
*they have a list of influencers they’re working with - they'll send me that list
2 years to build
by the end of 2015 they’re aiming for 100,000 users

PANDORA CALL
because Pandora isn’t on demand, if people discover something and love it, they have to go and buy it, or go see the person live
the same can’t be said for Spotify
means it is in addition to sales, not replacing it

SAMSUNG AT MUSIC FESTIVALS
Christ Lardi, PMK (call at Newark airport)

They filmed their SXSW shows for VR - the ones at Gov Ball
Going to half a dozen festivals this year, and different ones
Lolla (July 31 - Aug 2), SXSW, Essence (4th of July), ACL (first two weekends in October)
Do a good job of having people use the phone and discover how it works and certain features without hitting them over the head with it
S-Pen - why does my phone have a pen, so they have you play around with it in a constructed way to see how good it is
At some of the appropro festivals, they upgrade people simply for having their products, making the experience incredibly special
Really expensive tickets...if even available to the public
rory roth@pmk (Made in America) emily from gov ball - working on budweiser global (Made in America)
